How to Use Pendant Lighting

How to use pendant lighting

The popularity of pendant lighting has spiked as these extremely usable, versatile fixtures have become available in a huge variety of sizes, shapes and styles. Aside from the very basic aspects--a base, a stem and a light source--remaining constant among all pendants, the sky's the limit for how they may look.

Pendants are perfect for placing directed, deliberate pinpoints of light wherever it may be needed. Do you have a dark corner in your home? Want to switch up the old conventions of lighting and bring new designs to your space? You can do that, and more, with pendants. Here's how.

Pendants are often used in task lighting and decorative lighting applications, basically in spots that might need a little bit more illumination, since they provide downward, focused light. Try placing pendants over the kitchen or dining room table, but that's not the only place you can use them--think of places like reading nooks or bedrooms, too! Some creative minds are even replacing bathroom vanity lighting with strategically-placed pendants to provide a different look in the bathroom.

If you have a small or cluttered space, try swapping out floor or table lamps for pendants and then see the difference.

Make sure to get the pendants that will fit your particular space in terms of size. Be proportional: small pendants in too-large spaces won't look right, but neither will large pendants in too-small spaces. Also make sure your pendants are installed at the right height for your room. Don't worry, that's easy to figure out. Click here to get more information about doing just that.

You are also sure to find pendants that will fit your decor style, no matter what it may be. That's what makes them so versatile and so easy to implement.
